Meet Saxon and Lyra, two awesome, quirky, fun-loving kids from Irvine California. These two never disappoint and consistently keep me on my toes. And we’ve been shooting together since 2011! They feel like family to me. They know me, trust me, and the session feels more like play than posing, which is just the way I like it. It makes me happy that they feel comfortable and open to my suggestions during our family sessions.
For this round, we shot in and around Turtle Rock Community Park, just before sunset. I’m not going to lie, the twilight hour is my fave. The light, especially in Los Angeles and Orange County, is so yummy. Vivid, romantic, and simply dreamy. I can shoot at any hour but twilight is always my favorite, especially for a rustic and woodsy outdoor shoot.
So we took an hour and we danced with the setting sun. I asked for a few poses here and there but for the most part, I followed their lead, since the goal is always to capture their spark; their unique personalities. And though these two have grown older and much about them has changed, their bond has only grown stronger. As brother and sister, these two have a special bond. I love watching them interact with each other. They make each other laugh so hard, it’s magical and extremely contagious.
Mom is never far behind either, laughing and participating right along. She even did somersaults with them in the grass for this shoot… stellar. They all carry with them a fierce family dynamic that can be felt immediately, all the way through the back of my lenses. So I guide it, nurture it and then capture it… It’s what I do and I loves it. My clients, my Los Angeles families, are all rockstars. I am truly blessed. I cannot wait to work with these guys again next year and wish them much love and continued laughter till then.
