Ryan and Amy are an adorable, quirky, social, fun-loving couple from the City of Angels, California. They live in Los Angeles, breathe it, work it, volunteer for it, and naturally, had their first date within it so it should come as no surprise that we decided to shoot their engagement photos there as well. We broke it down to two specific locations, coordinated their outfits for each, and then set out to play, celebrate, and document Ryan and Amy’s newly announced engagement!
Location 1: Downtown Los Angeles, Vista Hermosa Nature Park-
Vista Hermosa Nature Park is a large park that sits in the middle of downtown’s urban landscape. It’s a gorgeous escape from the city with loads of trees, rolling hills, hiking trails, and animals. This was our starting point due to the fact that we wanted to take advantage of the natural setting and colorful sunset, as it peeked through the park and reflected off of the variety of buildings that frame the park’s edge. It made for the perfect balance with our second location.
Location 2: Downtown Los Angeles, Department of Water and Power-
The Department of Water and Power?… such a romantic location for an engagement shoot right? It actually is. The downtown Los Angeles DWP is a great location for viewing the city skyline. Lined with skyscrapers, pools of water, (and at certain hours) a variety of fountains, this location offers up an industrial city feel but with a zen twist. We decided not to include the fountain feature here since we were going for a different look but there are a large variety of shooting options in this area and it’s usually crowd-free.
Why Schedule an Engagement Shoot?
Why is it important to schedule an engagement shoot? This is one of our most frequently asked questions. While it all depends on each couple’s needs, we recommend engagement sessions because It’s a great way to express your relationship and upcoming wedding day, whether it be through your “Save The Date’s,” various announcements, prints for your home, a guest sign-in book at the wedding reception, or for the overall wedding website design. Engagement photos are also a great way to warm up and bond with your photographer, before the big day. It gives both sides an opportunity to work with each other, get out any nerves, and ask any remaining questions afterward. It’s like a dress rehearsal for your wedding day photography.
