Meet Hannah and her mother Liz, two Los Angeles natives that I have had the pleasure of documenting since 2008! For this round, we shot in Kenneth Hahn Park, Baldwin Hills, Los Angeles. Kenneth Hahn Park offers up a variety of pockets in which to play and pose. For starters, there’s a lake in the middle of the park with a few streams that trail off. On those streams reside a few bridges and then it’s all surrounded by a giant strip of plush green lawn, fenced in with tall trees. It’s a beautiful park with loads of options. Hannah was excited and her personality began to bubble the moment we walked the grounds.
Hannah is a friendly and gentle soul, full of play, and always eager to project to the back of my lens. Her eyes are consistently engaging and her energy is loving and light. And she’s an excellent dancer, holding no hesitation what-so-ever to also bring her mother into the dance as well. They make a sweet team and I always love working with them. The longer I work with my clients, the more comfortable they become, which allows for their personality to spring forth in every session. It makes my heart sing.
The Twilight Hour
This session took place during sunset. Those who know me, know that my favorite hour is always dusk, as the sun melts at the edge of the horizon. I love the color that fills the backdrop as well as the pops of light that can occur within the trees and because we live in beautiful Los Angeles, it’s always just the right temp. The mood is vivid, romantic, and dreamy. It’s the magic hour, often inspiring my families to sing (sometimes literally). I document throughout the day but for family portraits, the twilight hour is always my fave.
The last time I documented this family, it was primarily Hannah that I was asked to focus on. I was happy to bring mom into the story this time. This dynamic duo is very much aware of each other and incredibly affectionate. Needless to say, I phoned my own mother after the session.
?️& to you Hannah and Liz. I look forward to our next session!
